What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy® is an aesthetic procedure that is FDA-cleared for lifting the neck, chin and brow, for natural results that improve over time.

The technique utilizes microfocused ultrasound technology to generate heat beneath the surface of the skin and causes coagulation of collagen and elastin in the area. This induces the body's healing response, which gently lifts the skin over time.

What is Ultherapy?

What are the benefits of treatment?

"... treatment with micro-focused ultrasound with visualization with vertical vectoring demonstrated appreciable lifting and tightening of facial and neck tissue resulting in improved Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale scores and a high degree of patient satisfaction for up to one year." [1]

Ultherapy offers a noticeable lifting and tightening effect that belies the fact it is a non-surgical treatment, offering multiple areas of application and results that improve over time.

Achieve a better lift over time

Ultherapy achieves a remodelling effect beneath the skin's surface that takes time to deliver results.

While some patients may see results after 6 weeks, most people see noticeable results within a 3-6 month window of a single visit with zero or little downtime.

These effects may last for up to 1 year or longer, whereupon many patients elect to book a follow-up treatment to prolong the lifted effect.

What are the benefits?

How does the technology work?

The role of collagen

The body's main structural  protein

Collagen is the main structural protein between the body's connective tissues that helps provide the firmness and elasticity associated with youthful, healthy skin.

This collagen relaxes and loosens as part of the aging process, leading to a loss in elasticity and the knock-on effects of fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.

High-intensity focused ultrasound

Generating new collagen and elastin

Ultherapy's high-intensity ultrasound technology has several probes that are able to penetrate the skin to target the upper dermis (1.5mm), lower dermis (3.0mm) and superficial muscular aponeurotic system layers (4.5mm), affecting the muscles, skin and wrinkles.

The ultrasound stimulates production of new collagen and elastin, while reorganizing and strengthening the skin's foundations.

Ongoing regeneration of collagen

Up to 6 months of further tightening

The treatment generates new collagen and elastin while leaving behind tight, structured skin layers to provide targeted lift, tightening and sculpting of the facial contours - for firmer skin and fewer wrinkles.

For most people, the effects are most prominent at between 3-6 months after treatment and continue to take effect until up to a year or more.

What does treatment involve?

Rin Aesthetics Clinic in Hong Kong offers Ultherapy face lifting treatment in a single session that lasts between 30 and 90 minutes depending on the area of treatment, with no downtime afterwards.

1.

A facial cleanse

Our skincare assistant cleanses your face, removing any makeup and preparing your skin for treatment.

2.

Ultrasound gel is applied

A cooling gel is applied and the treatment applicator pressed against the skin.

3.

Ultrasound energy is delivered

The doctor uses an ultrasound visual display to target the exact area for treatment. You may experience a heating or tingling sensation while the energy is distributed.

4.

Post-treatment

The treatment's lifting and tightening effect gains most prominence 2-3 months after, even up to 6 months after, as new collagen and elastin forms and your restructured skin takes on a firmer, more contoured appearance.

Is Ultherapy safe? What are the side effects?

The Safety of Microfocused Ultrasound with Visualization (MFU-V) has been well established in both controlled clinical studies and in clinical use, showing only mild and transient anticipated side effects and only rare unanticipated adverse events (AEs) [1].

Ultherapy and the Ulthera system is available in over 75 countries and used to provide 1.5 million treatments annually across the globe. Its medium, ultrasound energy, has been used in the field of medicine for over 50 years [2].

Ultherapy is an FDA-cleared treatment that bears CE marking.

In a clinical study of over 769 patients [2], tenderness/soreness, welt/lines or bruising were observed in more than 0.2% of subjects. The following symptoms were observed in under 0.4% of subjects; pain, nerve irritation, numbness, lumps, swelling, tingling, itchiness, redness, hives/rash, headaches, swollen throat during treatment.

Of all those experiencing symptoms, all side effects were described by investigators as mild, with the exception of 4 instances that were described as moderate.
